Tooling Up for V4.1-Flash-1017: DeepSeek Harness v0.2.1 and the Agent Ecosystem

Alongside V4.1-Flash-1017, DeepSeek named the tools tuned for it: DeepSeek Harness (v0.2.1-rc.1 or later recommended), Tencent CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, and more. Based on the official Agent Integrations list, here is the current coding-agent landscape and what to watch.

Why upgrade Harness

DeepSeek says the new model is tuned for Harness v0.2.1-rc.1 and later; older versions may not exploit the shorter-output and tool-calling improvements. Earlier ecosystem roundups are in the Harness plugins overview and the October tools digest.

The Search/Fetch free window

Server-side Search/Fetch calls inside Harness, Claude Code, and Codex are free until October 31, 16:00 UTC, then billed at $0.75 per 1,000 calls. Teams planning migration evaluations during the window can benchmark on their own task sets, following the approach in the V4.1-Flash review.

Build or adopt?

A few dozen lines of script over the raw APIs power a web-connected assistant (see the Python tutorial), which suits custom workflows; multi-step planning, sandboxing, and rollback call for a mature framework like Harness. For in-editor usage, the VS Code integration tutorial still applies. Background in the launch-day roundup.
